The finishing lining of the surfaces with ceramic tiles has a long story. In the modern world, it has become the most popular due to accessibility and convenient prices. While choosing any repair and construction materials, it is important to calculate their amount correctly . In this article, we will talk about the simplest way to calculate ceramic tiles, you'll only need a tape measure, a calculator and a piece of paper.

First of all you need to select the desired tile. In one of the articles, we have already talked about how to choose ceramic tiles. After you'll have to selected a specific tile with specific dimensions, you can start calculating the number of tiles and here's what you'll need for this:

1. Measure the length and height of each wall with a tape measure and calculate the area (multiply the length and height). If there is a door or window in the wall, subtract their area from the resulting area. Add 10% to the resulting number, which, as a rule, go to trimming;

2. Divide the area of each wall (including 10%) by the area of the tiles. You will get a certain number and if it is not an integer, then you need to round it up.

3. In the case of the floor, the calculation is carried out in the same way, that is, the length and width are measured and the area is calculated.

So that the tiles calculation does not seem too complicated to you, we will consider it with a specific example. Suppose you have a room that needs to be tiled with ceramic tiles. For the walls, we selected tiles with dimensions of 25x75 cm (0.25x0.75 m) and an area of 1875 cm2 (0.1875 m2). For the floor, we take porcelain stoneware with dimensions of 45x45 cm (0.45x0.45 m) and an area of 2025 cm2 (0.2025 m2).

Room dimensions:
• length 4 m
• width 3 m
• wall height 3 m.

Calculation:

• Since the room is rectangular, the areas of parallel walls will be the same, that is, two walls with an area of 9 m2 (total 18 m2) and two with an area of 12 m2 (total 24 m2). Calculating the area of each tile, we converted them to square meters in advance. This is important in order not to be mistaken in calculations due to incorrectly selected units of measurement. From the calculations we get:

• Number of tiles for two walls, each of which is 9 m2:

• As we said above, the calculations for the floor are similar. The floor area is divided by the tile area and we get: 18:0.1875 = 96 tiles.

Adding 10% to them, we get: 96 + 10% = 105.6 tiles. Round up to 106 tiles. The number of wall tiles is 12 m2. For two walls: 24:0.1875 = 128 tiles.

Similarly, add 10% and get: 128 + 10% = 140.8 tiles. Round up to 141 tiles. 12: 0.2025 = 59.2 tiles. 59.2 + 10% = 65.12 tiles. Round up to 66 tiles.

The final result: a total of 247 tiles will be required to face the walls, and 66 porcelain tiles for the floor.
As you can see, calculating the number of ceramic tiles yourself is not too difficult and you can handle it on your own
.
