The beauty of flowering plants a priori attracts views and, imperceptibly for you, they slowly begin to populate your home. For your plants to please you, they must be properly maintained. Novice flower growers believe that plant care involves only watering. This is not to say that this is a wrong approach, but several aspects still need to be considered. This is what our article will be about.
The first mistake that novice florists make is the wrong place. When choosing plants to decorate a space, you need to take into account the needs of the plant. If you want to fill the far corner of the room, then opt for shade-resistant plants. It can be begonias, sanseveria, zamioculcas.
Succulents (cactus, aloe, crassula) love a lot of light. They feel especially good in direct sun.
Most flowering plants love diffused light and morning sunshine.
The second mistake is improper watering. Watering too often threatens your plants with root rot or soil acidification. Plants suffer no less from rare watering. The way out is to maintain a balance. For each plant, there is a watering rate in compliance with the required interval. Succulents, depending on the season, are recommended to be watered 2-4 times throughout the month. They don't like too much attention. It is recommended to water flowering plants and other plants as the topsoil dries out.
Water should be poured onto the soil, not onto the plant.
From the end of April to the end of September, many moisture-loving plants such as spathiphyllum, dracaena, shefflers, in addition to watering, also need to be sprayed. This process can be replaced by wiping the leaves with a damp sponge or cloth. Plants with velvety leaves should be cleaned with a dry soft brush.
Do not water the plants with cold tap water. Water for irrigation and spraying should stand for at least a day for the substances contained in it to settle. It should also be at room temperature.
Improper planting/replanting is also bad for plants. At first glance, nothing is simpler, but in this case, as in any other, there are some nuances.
Mistakes begin with choosing the wrong pot size. The pot should not correspond to the size of the pot itself, but to its root system.
The next mistake is the lack of a drainage layer. This must be present.
Improperly poured soil is also a problem. Unknowingly, many beginners compact the soil from above with their palm, but you need to add a little earth and after each addition, pat the walls of the pot and help with your fingers, distributing the soil in the pot with them.
Remember to loosen the soil before each watering. The earth tends to be compacted. This disrupts natural aeration, so the earth must be loosened from time to time. If you have a plastic pot, then it is enough to press down the walls a little, and if you have ceramic pots, then you should start some long thin rod and very carefully, pierce the soil with it in different places, but so as not to damage the roots.
These were the five main mistakes novice growers make. It is important to remember that plants, like people, need care, but in moderation.
